"Baan Dada" provides a loving home, education, and a healthy diet for 41 abandoned children, ages 2 to 17. 4 mothers, 1 grandmother, and 3 fathers also live here. The majority of our home’s members are Karen-Thai, who are not considered full Thai citizens and who lack educational and job opportunities, as well as basic health care, in their rural communities.

There is an urgent need to expand our home since our hildren currently live in overcrowded conditions. The boys live, sleep, and study in a 1-storey building with eight small rooms and an office. The older boys sleep 2 or 3 to a small room, while up to 20 of the younger children sleep on mats on the floor of the narrow office, which also doubles as the home’s play/study room. The girls and mothers live in a bamboo hut and two small mudbrick houses nearby. Our lack of living space at the Home invites the quick spread of germs, from the common cold to conjunctivitis. Other issues involve the difficulty in maintaining an acceptable level of hygiene and a lack of privacy, which makes it particularly difficult for our children to concentrate on their studies.

Construction of the second and third floors has ceased due to a lack of financial resources needed to complete the task.
